This week’s Ninjutsu sessions, 1-6.11.2015

This Friday, there will not be an ECR training session. Instead we will hold one, in a different framework, two weeks from now.

All places were quickly filled and the registration is closed for the 1st Conflict managment seminar (Detant-AKBAN). The seminar will take place at 27.11.2015. Here’s the link to the event.

And to technical matters, last week we added two more throws, Tai Otoshi and Yoko Sutemi, to the throws we already learned this month, Kibisu Gaeshi and Kubi nage.

Three strikes to the head an neck area, Goshin Tsuki, Shikan Ken and Nukite were learned in the 1st timing.

This week we will integrate the throws we learned into the 4th drill sequences and start applying them in dynamic situation.

Martial arts training this week, 18-23.10.2015

Yakov Schacht, the headmaster of the largest combat Ninjutsu Academy in Europe will be teaching this week. It’ll happen this Tuesday, 20.10.2015, 18:00, in AKBAN Tel Aviv. Yakov Sensei will be teaching about combat and randori. Don’t miss this one. Here’s a link to the FB event.

In Friday, 23.10.2015, we will have the regular ECR session at 08:00 sharp.

So, when I try to sum up the sessions this week I have one word: frustration.

In an unfortunate coincidence, weeks before the knife attacks and terror acts started, we focused on weapons. These last two weeks were mainly knife and Muto Dori. We just witnessed it again, fighting empty handed against a knife is not assured and is dangerous even if we are great experts. The speed of the knife, added to the fact that catching the knife hand is difficult, and even if a success, poses many risks to the defender, makes many techniques, when tested in randori, null.

We spent, in the past, some years learning from the best weapon oriented schools, but still, empty hand techniques against a knife attack in randori were mostly not dependable and not valid.

That’s the way it goes. I teach in a professional place and we are obligated to run proper debriefing and abide by the conclusions – we do not have, so far, a good and dependable solution to a situation when the opponent has a power multiplayer and we have non.

So, we’re back to pre-test syllabus with arm-locks, slowly improving ukemi skills and a lot more modesty.

Ninjutsu training this week, 11-16.10.2015

We are continuing with Ninjutsu arm-locks, and this week with an emphasis on Ukemi, falling, skills, so we can improve our abilities in Kanstsu waza and Nage waza.

The wide technical front that we tackled last year forces us to devote time to repeat what we have learned, so please bring your gloves and protective equipment.

The Famous Four AKBAN knife drill will not be neglected. Not only it give us a level of assurance in the terror attacks our community experienced last week, but the drill is an excellent tool for distance and timing in tai sabaki.

In two weeks time, at 20.10.2015, we will have a fantastic seminar with the headmaster of the biggest Ninjutsu academy in Europe, Yakov Schacht. Get ready.
