During the ceremony for the Holocaust survivors we will be training behind the dojo, at the sport yard. We will repeat kicking and boxing drill combined with the relevant sabaki sets.
Because of the special considerations to Holocaust remembrance day we will do some of our training on difficult terrain emphasizing sabaki skills plus the punch – kick combinations.
We are continuing the work on reaction patterns and distance. Using the Gyokko ryu kata we will dismantle the moves and practice them against focus mitts at the first training session.
At the veterans’ session we will work with Kusari and knives on reaction and distancing using the intermediate sabaki patterns.
We just spent the last two years honing our sabaki skills and learning basic Ninjutsu striking and kick combos.
Today we will continue on merging these techniques together using several Gyokko ryu kata as a hub.
The way I experienced it, Tai sabaki and striking skills, no matter how efficient and strong, are not good enough in Randori. What binds distancing punches and kicks together are instincts and reaction patterns that are practiced over and over.
I can compare the method I am using now with the method I was using several years ago and see the results in the sparring sessions.

Both training sessions will be dedicated to this only, with the second session emphasizing weapons.
If there will be time left we will work out with two Ninjutsu re-action drills.
Slowly, like a snail, I am writing the huge Ninjutsu syllabus. Last month I finished the Koto ryu kata, now the logical continuation is Gyokko ryu. This is the first strategy level, the Jo ryaku no maki.
