Background

This arm lock is one of the strongest locks in the syllabus as it pits the whole weight of the body on one joint: the elbow. The technique requires decisive, swift motions- as a stronger opponent will be able to avoid it if it isn't done quickly enough. The technique works best with a preliminary strike, preferably to the stomach so the opponent will bend forwards and the hold will be easier to achieve.

Description of the Technique

This hold is achieved by releasing the grip of the opponent's hand by pushing it upwards in a swift powerful motion. This is followed by twisting the opponent's arm so that his elbow will point upwards and put it under the shoulder and armpit. This is followed by dropping with the opponent to the ground so he falls on his stomach with his face to the ground- that way he is unable to move. The pressure is applied to the elbow as the user of the hold lies on the arm above the elbow and pulls the opponent's wrist upwards. The lock is meant to break the elbow.
