Background of back roll
Description of Koho kaiten - rolling backward
This roll is extremely important and forms a basis to many of the rolls in Ninjutsu. To perform this roll correctly the shoulder blade must touch the ground and both legs must pass though the same side of the head (either right or left). It is preferable to end the roll on both feet rather than on one foot and knee- this way the body is slower to get up and this limits an option to evade an attack.
