This Iaido kata is a Japanese sword drawing kata standardized by the Japanese Kendo federation in the late 20th century.

Description of Ukenagashi, third sword drawing kata

  1. The swordsman sits in seiza.
  2. The opponent stands up and attacks.
  3. The swordsman parries (uke nagashi) the attack while moving left foot toward right knee and standing. # The swordsman cuts with an overhead diagonal cut.
  4. Then performs blood shaking (chiburi) and sword sheathing (noto).
