Background of Sanpo-giri, seventh sword drawing kata

This Iaido kata is a Japanese sword drawing kata standardized by the Japanese Kendo federation in the late 20th century.

Description of Sanpo-giri, seventh sword drawing kata

The seventh seitei gata stats with the swordsman confronted with three opponents. The swordsman intimidates the frontal opponent with ki, turns and cuts the right opponent with a downward overhead cut, turns and cuts the opponent to the left with downward overhead cut and then using a full step with the right leg finishes the frontal opponent with the same downward overhead cut of the sword. The swordsman steps back with his right leg to observe the scene with concentration (Zan shin) doing a Daijodan no Kamae. The swordsman shakes the blood of the blade while taking the left leg back (chiburi). The swordsman then sheaths the sword (noto).
