Hoko no kamae, Bear waiting stance (הוקו נו קמאה), is a Ninjutsu combat stance. This posture has two uses:

  1. The main use of this posture is to lure an opponent into attacking so the user can counter attack.
  2. intimidating the opponent, as both hands are raised above the head and towards the opponent.
  3. raising the spirit of the defendant.

Description of Hoko no kamae

The body of the user seems undefended and the head of the user is very difficult to hit(due to the height that the hands are raised to). That way an opponent may be tempted to attack the body (and not the head) while the hands of the user are more than able, and in range to block and counter attack.
